Laila Elhossini
1st Dan, Beikoku Shidokan Karatedo Association
Background:
Started Karate in 2013. Began at Grand River Karate in 2018.
Occupation:
Student
Why I started:
My friend’s dad back in elementary ran a Karate dojo in Wado-Ryu style, which sounded really cool so I joined. I stuck with it because of the great benefits it had on my health and it was a lot of fun. When I moved, I came across Grand River Karate. Everyone was super friendly and the style intrigued me, so I stayed.
Why I like Shidokan:
I like delving into the details of things, and Shidokan never fails to satisfy that. There’s always something new to discover; a different way of looking at things - and because of that it’s so efficient. Looking at how smooth the masters are, it’s exciting to work towards that.
What I enjoy about teaching:
I like helping people, and teaching is a great way to do that. It’s incredibly satisfying to see the improvement in others. Teaching also makes you question why you do things a certain way, and in breaking it down you learn new things yourself.
Other interests:
Engineering, Exploring new places with friends and family, Art, Reading
