TEEN / ADULTS CLASS
Why should I choose your dojo?
We offer a traditional martial art that teaches self defense in a safe environment. We teach with attention to detail, individualized instruction, and mutual respect that fosters friendship.

Do I need to be fit to get started?
The simple answer is you do not need to be fit to begin. Part of your martial arts journey is to improve your health and fitness. Everyone has a different starting point and will improve with training.

How do I get started, what do I wear and will there be someone to help me on the first class?
We always start your training one on one with a qualified Sensei before you graduate into a group setting. Your first lesson can be in athletic attire.

What do I do and how will I be treated if I come from another style?
It’s very common for students to come with experience training in different styles. We respect the time and effort you’ve given and you will gradually assimilate into our style.

How effective is your style from other styles?
Everyone comes to a new Karate dojo with different goals. Every style offers something a little different.
Shidokan Shorin Ryu karate’s origins date back to the creation of traditional martial arts. The techniques we use are effective and have been proven for self defense by centuries of practical application.
What are the overall costs and are there any hidden costs?
We believe in full transparency, we do not have hidden costs outside of tuition and belt/rank testings. We offer several tuition options for each student or family and can help you decide what works best for you.

What will I personally gain from training?
A healthy outlet that builds confidence and the ability to defend yourself. Our adult programs lead to long term health benefits - such as increased fitness and flexibility.
The dojo also offers an opportunity to make new friends, building comradery that will last a lifetime.

How long does it take to get a black belt?
It can take approximately 4 to 10 years. More importantly the student is evaluated by their attendance, ability to perform requirements and continues to embrace the benefits of friendship, cooperation and learning.
KIDS / PARENT CLASS
What is the best age for my child to start karate?
We start our kids at 8 years old. The class is for 8 to 12 years old. This is a good age for them to comprehend the requirements, start building their confidence and meet new friends.

What benefits will my child receive from training at your dojo?
Learning self discipline, improving fitness along with self defense and self confidence. In the process of training together, our students learn how cooperation and friendship will lead to future success. We encourage parent's to train as well this if they wish. By training, learning and having fun together supports your family bond.

How many kids are in a class at one time?
It changes through the year. Typically we have 15 to 40 kids and parents training together. We have a very large dojo and several assistant instructors.

What training credentials do the kids instructor have?
All our instructors are First Aid certified, have achieved the rank of 3rd degree black belt with certification from the Beikoku Shidokan Karatedo Association.
Are there discounts if we enroll more then one child from our family?
Yes. We can discuss options with you.
Is it safe for my child?
Yes. We practice safe and effective training. Injuries are extremely rare. ​

My child has been bullied. How can y our program help deal with this?
Training in the dojo consistently will give kids the ability to stand up for themselves. Our programs build self confidence along with the skills we are teaching.
